Lead City University, not a den of ‘Yahoo boys’ - Lead City Voices reacts

Lead City University is an institution that stands out among many others, a university that ensures proper dissemination of knowledge to students and proper academic and social coordination. Saying that Lead City University is a den of “yahoo boys” is not only a statement that lacks the accuracy of truth , but is also void of understanding and common sense.  Take for example, Lead City University population doesn’t total 2, 000 and out of the about ‘two thousand students’, I say they have up to 1, 200 boys. Now the statistics goes this way: federal universities not to mention names, have a population of about ‘70, 000 students’ and out of the ‘70, 000 students’, about 40, 000 of them are guys. Following this, if you want to choose where these so called ‘yahoo boys’ will be mostly you would not talk about Lead City University at all.  Our message to everyone out there is that, Lead City University, Ibadan is the best among thousands and as a result we are being...

This is pain

This is pain Pain is something unbearable  It’s something terrible  It’s something not shareable  Once it gets to you It doesn’t go away easily  It is not peaceful  It’s pain  Pain is pin It’s gives your head a spin It hides in silence  Steals your smile Makes you unhappy  Leaves you stranded  Sometimes you don’t understand your feelings  Even your brain stops functioning  Because it’s pain People often ask “are you okay?” You say you are But pain has turned you to a liar Too heavy to say how you feel But you wake everyday with a little hope, That things will get better  You see sign that there is indeed light at every tunnel  But when will it get to the end of the tunnel  The journey seems so long  My hope now finds pain  And maybe indeed it will get better. Holiday or Hustle?

It's holiday season and everyone seems to have their version of how their holiday has been going and well, tonight we hear of how it has been going from one of our editorial team members  Holiday or Hustle? My Rest Plan In The Mud This holiday has been a lot, trust me, not in the “spa day and Netflix” kind of way. When I was packing to come home, I was so sure I’d be living the soft life. You know, sleeping in, catching up on my favourite shows, and finally exhaling. But the minute I got back? Boom - WORK! Right now, I am knee-deep in writing a story for one of my courses. It is actually our exam, so it is not just “anyhow” writing. You need your brain fully charged, your inspiration flowing, and your creative space intact. Spoiler alert: my creative space has been constantly invaded. Now, let's enter the side quests : endless chores, parents who somehow have a sixth sense for when you are “free,” departmental duties, and my roles as an executive and member of Lead City Voice...

Address from AGS II

Image
The Beginning of my Journey Assistant General Secretary II of Lead City Voices Stepping into the role of Assistant General Secretary II of Lead City Voices has been one of the most defining moments of my journey at Lead City University. It was not a position I stumbled upon by chance ,it was one I pursued with intention, determination, and a heart set on service. In this role, my goal is to keep our communication smooth, our records well-organised, and to support projects that will make Lead City Voices even stronger and more impactful. I want to help create an environment where every voice is heard and where we can keep raising the bar together. This position has already taught me so much from better time management to working closely with people who inspire me daily. It has helped me grow in confidence, leadership, and service. I’m thankful for this journey and excited for all that’s ahead for Lead City Voices.

Celebrating girls

Image
Friday was national girlfriend's day and Sunday was apparently national sister's day. Who honestly knows when all these days started coming into play? But what's important is the celebration of women in our lives. Female friendships are often overlooked, insulted, claiming women are problematic, stressful, take things too seriously just because they care about their friendships enough to put emotions into it.  Seeing people celebrate females they have relationships with, either: platonic, romantic or even familial, it brings joy to the heart and keeps hope in society. And to the tea, trust the gossip mill to have kept running, the weary eyes were out; watching for the deliveries, the money bouquets, the roses and the posts. We saw you all. To all the singles and singlets, our sincere sympathies 😂😂 and to the understanding girlfriends even more sympathy graced to you.  This is to the girlies, the girlfriends and the sister. Happy girlfriends' day🥂, you are...

It's a new dispensation

It's August 1st today. A whole month gone from the second half of the year. It sort of feels like everything is ending and most times we just want to hold on to what we have and stay with it for as long as possible. But what if everything ending isn't so bad. What if that door closing is going to be the best thing to happen to you, what if that chapter closing opens you up to the best chapter of your life, the page ending is ending critical challenges.  Every now and then, change is inevitable and guess who else just closed a chapter!!!  Drum rolls please!!! It is Lead City Voices- the voice for change in Lead City University. Just as the 2024/2025 academic session came to a close, so did an era in Lead City Voices. The highly anticipated hand-over ceremony took place on the 10th July, 2025. It was of course bubbling with laughter, memories, a lot of intellect shared and more that only those who were present can attest to that.  Of course the Lead City V...

PEER PRESSURE: THE GEN Z'S REALITY.

PEER PRESSURE: THE GEN Z'S REALITY Peer pressure is a topic we might have heard countless times. It probably seems boring now. Our parents, lecturers and generally older people in our lives have talked on and on about this topic. This being said, most students wouldn't want to listen to or read about anything about peer pressure. However, it is a reality in our lives, so we have to hear about it, think about it and talk about it. Peer pressure is defined as the influence from one's peer group otherwise known as one's age group, meaning it can be negative or positive. Peer pressure can influence someone to read their books and influence another person to start using hard drugs. This being said, it can be seen that there is no one peer pressure can't affect, including the adults that advise us not to fall victim to it. Peer pressure is more common among children, teenagers and young adults because they still have malleable minds. It should however be noted that peer ...
