Lead City Voices 8th Annual Inter-faculty Debate Competition

 THE 8TH ANNUAL INTER-FACULTY DEBATE COMPETITION HELD AT LEAD CITY UNIVERSITY, IBADAN.

As part of efforts toward promoting intellectual discourse and versatility within the university community and especially among students, Leadcity University,Ibadan , recently held its 8th inter-faculty debate competition with the theme “Nigeria Educational crisis: Is it Government, Students, Parents, Teachers, Curriculum the cause?”.

Like every other intellectual event Leadcity University, Ibadan, the event began with the recitation of the National Anthem then followed by the school anthem.

The inter-faculty debate competition was centered on the topic as the faculty of communication and information sciences, Faculty of  Education, Faculty of management and social sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Arts expressed their notions towards the opposing Faculty of Pharmacy, Environmental design & management, Engineering, Natural &Applied Sciences, College of Medicine respectively.

 It was of keen interest to see all the faculties of Leadcity University present at the debate competition. 

The opening speech was taken by the Deputy Editor-in-chief, Abigail Orimiobayaku,in her speech juxtaposed the Education benefits from time immemorial, the reasons for the debate and hence, its’ importance.

According to Lead City Voices President, Ogunola Victor, after given the podium for his welcome address and gave the colossal information about what Leadcity Voices really entrued. He further stated the first round of the debate, which held on 21 November, 2023, afforded speakers from the participating Faculties five minutes each, while the chief speakers had additional minute to summarise their points. He disclosed that participants were placed in two groups, with which having a topic to support or oppose accordingly.

However, the groups of the first round quarer of the debate competition was as follows : Faculty of communication and information sciences VS Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Education VS Faculty of Environmental design and Management, Faculty of Management and social sciences VS Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law VS Faculty of Faculty of Natural and Applied sciences, Faculty of Arts VS College of Medicine.

The judges disclosed the Faculties that were qualified for the grand finale of the debate competition which includes: Faculty of Law, Faculty of  Natural and Applied sciences, Faculty of communication and information sciences, Faculty of Environmental design ,Faculty of Management and social sciences and Faculty of Arts with their points seemingly following with high proximity. 


Speaking at the event for the grand finale,November 23rd2023, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Adeyemo ,The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Owolabi,The Registrar, Dr.Mrs Oyebola Ayeni represented by a dignitary in the office, The University Marketing Head,Dr Mrs A. Deborah, welcomed everyone to the best private University in Nigeria. He noted the aim of the debate was to arouse critical thinking in the hearts and mind of the students  as well as proffer tangible contributions to issues of world wide importance. 

Also, staff and students of the university, as well as invited guests especially from neighboring universities were present.

The honourable veteran Chaplain was present as well, along side the University Chairman, the Staff adviser, Associate Prof. Robbinson ,the judges, Prof. Adebo Babatunde, The former President of Leadcity Voices,Miss Inikpi Amodu, The amiable partners and sponsors from across the globe present there and represented were all with great ecstasy to see the brilliance, excellence, resilience, doggedness at its peak.

All the six Faculties qualified as mentioned above were duly represented by a team of thinkers who defended their positions brilliantly.Students from each Faculties have clinched the trophy for the 8th Annual Inter-faculty debate competition.

In the grand finale, Faculty of Natural and Applied sciences ended with 140 points for supporting the notion given, Faculty of Law had a total of 145 points ,Faculty of Environmental design and Management garnered a total of 150 points to beat Faculty of Law.

The Faculty of Environmental design and Management emerged as the overall winner with a congratulatory cash prize of #25,000 ,award certificate, Leadcity Voices magazine and  journal. 

The dexterity of Faculty of Law earned them the second position and a cash prize of #15,000 with an award certificate alongside Leadcity Voices magazine and journal. 

The eloquent and well crafted speech of Faculty of Natural and Applied sciences made them emerge as the 3rd position with a cash prize of #10,000,award certificate, Lead City Voices Magazine and journal. 

Moreover, there  were other side attractions like raffle draw, games,  to mention a few which took place to make the experience fun-filled making it conducive for both learning environment and extra-curricular activities. 

During an interactive session between the CEO of Solid expression of Vocationals, Lead City University and the Media.

“The event was a beautiful one, the speakers really did a nice job, they dished out amazing speeches on the topic, i commend you all the executives of Leadcity Voices, you’re all going to higher places, well done!”- CEO SOLID EXPRESSION

Above all, It was an enlightening experience and a wake-up call for hope on the Nigeria’s Educational System.
