Lead City University Honours Young Nigerians

LEAD City University, Ibadan, Oyo State, recently recognised the contributions of some outstanding Nigerians to youth and national development. At a three-day honourary award organised by the students of the institution, prominent young individuals who received awards were David Kole Ojo, a United Kingdom based lawyer, Henry Ojoye, publisher, Digest Magazine, Isaac Oluyi of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Timi Olagunju, a Lagos-based lawyer and Adejoke Layi-Babatunde of the LawBreed Foundation. Others were Bidemi Babalola, director, Youth Focus Initiatives, Gbenga Omisore, publisher, Youth Digest Africa magazine, Ishaya Ibrahim, a Lagos-based journalist, Seyi Gesinde, online editor, Nigerian Tribune and Solomon Olaniyonu, commissioner for education, Oyo State.

In his remark, Olufemi Onabajo, vice-chancellor of the university, said the Lead City University remained the best in Nigeria. “I keep telling my students that you are lucky to be in Lead City University. Lead City University is the best university in Nigeria. We are under reported but this is where the action is. We are best in the sense that we develop bold students, students that are bold to a fault, students that are not intimidated by whatever power, whether you are president or minister or commissioner,” he said.

On his part, Bill Essien, president, Lead City Voices, organisers of the event and Tunde Oseni, lecturer at the department of politics and international relations, said the essence of the programme was to mould students of the institution into leaders with great intellectual prowess.

Celebrating girls

Friday was national girlfriend's day and Sunday was apparently national sister's day. Who honestly knows when all these days started coming into play? But what's important is the celebration of women in our lives. Female friendships are often overlooked, insulted, claiming women are problematic, stressful, take things too seriously just because they care about their friendships enough to put emotions into it.  Seeing people celebrate females they have relationships with, either: platonic, romantic or even familial, it brings joy to the heart and keeps hope in society. And to the tea, trust the gossip mill to have kept running,the weary eyes were out; watching for the deliveries, the money bouquets, the roses and the posts. We saw you all. The Beginning of my Journey Assistant General Secretary II of Lead City Voices Stepping into the role of Assistant General Secretary II of Lead City Voices has been one of the most defining moments of my journey at Lead City University. It was not a position I stumbled upon by chance ,it was one I pursued with intention, determination, and a heart set on service. In this role, my goal is to keep our communication smooth, our records well-organised, and to support projects that will make Lead City Voices even stronger and more impactful. I want to help create an environment where every voice is heard and where we can keep raising the bar together. This position has already taught me so much from better time management to working closely with people who inspire me daily. It has helped me grow in confidence, leadership, and service. I’m thankful for this journey and excited for all that’s ahead for Lead City Voices.
