Ref: Lead City varsity begins intra-varsity debate

By: Victoria Ewoh ( Apr 30, 2014 )   Students of Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State capital, last week, converged at the university International Conference Centre for this year’s edition of the institution’s intra-varsity debate. The theme of the debate was: “100 Years after Amalgamation; Nigeria’s Unity is not Negotiable.” In his key note address presented on his behalf by Mr. Dokun Alabi, Oyo State Education Commissioner, Prof. Solomon Olaniyonu, lauded the students for organising the programme and for the quality of the debaters. He described them as the useful and needful resources for the development of the country, urging the students to imbibe the salient values and what they learnt in the debate with a view to become better citizens who are relevant to the development of the country. Lead City University, not a den of ‘Yahoo boys’ - Lead City Voices reacts

Lead City University is an institution that stands out among many others, a university that ensures proper dissemination of knowledge to students and proper academic and social coordination. Saying that Lead City University is a den of “yahoo boys” is not only a statement that lacks the accuracy of truth , but is also void of understanding and common sense.  Take for example, Lead City University population doesn’t total 2, 000 and out of the about ‘two thousand students’, I say they have up to 1, 200 boys. Now the statistics goes this way: federal universities not to mention names, have a population of about ‘70, 000 students’ and out of the ‘70, 000 students’, about 40, 000 of them are guys. Lead City University Honours Young Nigerians

At a three-day honourary award organised by the students of the institution, prominent young individuals who received awards were David Kole Ojo, a United Kingdom based lawyer, Henry Ojoye, publisher, Digest Magazine, Isaac Oluyi of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Timi Olagunju, a Lagos-based lawyer and Adejoke Layi-Babatunde of the LawBreed Foundation. Others were Bidemi Babalola, director, Youth Focus Initiatives, Gbenga Omisore, publisher, Youth Digest Africa magazine, Ishaya Ibrahim, a Lagos-based journalist, Seyi Gesinde, online editor, Nigerian Tribune and Solomon Olaniyonu, commissioner for education, Oyo State.
