Lead City University’s Intra-University Debate: Mass Communication & Media Tech. department emerges winner





The three days’ maiden Intra-University Debate of Lead City University Ibadan has come to an end with the Department of Mass Communication & Media Technology emerging as the winner out of the four departments that eventually contested in the final.
More than ten departments participated in the debate that started on Monday 14th of April out of which four made it to the final. The departments that contested in the final on Wednesday were Mass Communication & Media Technology, Politics & International Relations, Management & Accounting and Educational Administration.
The representatives of the participating departments were Ganiyu Ifedayo & Kofoworola Odunjo (Politics & International Relations), Savage Ayodeji & Ajayi Bukola (Mass Communication & Media Technology), Da-Silver Eniola & Seye  Emmanuel (Management/Accounting) and Adeleke Opeyemi & Fagbiyi Ifedoluwa (Educational Administration).
The topic of Wednesday’s final debate was “100 years after amalgamation; Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable”. The department of Mass Communication opposed the motion while others supported it. The criteria used in judging the debaters includes, ‘appearance, comportment, relevance of points, communication skills/effectiveness’.
In his key note address, The Honourable Commissioner for Education in Oyo state, Professor S.O.A.  Olaniyonu who was represented by Mr. Dokun Alabi highly commended the quality of the debaters, describing them as the useful and needed materials in Nigeria’s industries. He charged the students to go and check themselves and make necessary adjustments concerning what they had heard from the debaters.
The event was rounded off with the presentation of award of “Friend of Lead City University” to some individuals in recognition of their sterling and commendable efforts towards youth and national development. The awardees were Prof. S.O.A. Olaniyonu - Hon. Commissioner for Education, Bar. (Mrs.) Adejoke Layi-BabatundeLawBreed Foundation, Bar. Timi Olagunju (Sync Legal, Lekki Lagos), Mr. Isaac Oluyi (Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife), Mr. Gbenga Omisore (Publisher - Youth Digest Africa Magazine), Mr. Ishaya Ibrahim (Pioneering Staff, Niche Newspaper), Mrs. Bidemi Babalola (Director, Youth Focus Initiative, Lagos), Prince Henry Ojoye (Publisher, Digest Magazine International, Lagos), Mr. Seyi Gesinde (Online Editor, Nigerian Tribune), Bar. David Kole Ojo (U.K based Barrister) among others.
