Rape
By: Olamide Santos
I have witnessed a rape
And done nothing
Beautiful innocence
Stolen from a graceful virgin
The children of the mother
Weep in agony; what is our destiny
I have witnessed a rape
My forefathers witnessed it too
Written in pages
That we know to be true
They told me the seducers came
Riding the waves our waters
They came looking like the sun,
Blue eyes and speaking wonders
I have witnessed a rape
Will my children also witness this?
We have cried, we have fought
When will our misfortune cease?
Do the answers lie with our unborn?
Do we wait with un-assured expectancy?
When we can do for our children
What our fathers fought for valiantly
I have witnessed a rape
They divided mother’s apparel
Piece by piece they took her
Plunged in, sounding her death knell
Consuming her beauty with impunity
Oh! Sons of Africa, arise
How long shall we continue to watch?
While our beautiful mother dies
A very captivating poem. most impressive.
