Dressing Up For That Occasion

By: Olasehinde Rebecca

Just as every lady should have a little black dress in her wardrobe, so also should guys have one white button-up shirt buried somewhere in their closet. A white button-up shirt is a statement for the élite and worn by the upper class.

A white shirt can be worn officially under a jacket and a tie. It also goes with casual wear such as jeans and denim. For formal occasions, a white shirt should be tucked in and worn under a variety of ties depending on your demeanour. Ties could be plain or patterned. Regardless of the occasion, a dark tie gives a more formal visage to a patterned tie.

As is known, white is the perfect canvas for colour and serves a panacea for all fashion quandaries. A little caution must be emphasized, however, as white is delicate and some colours disagree with it depending on peering combinations such as red, green, and orange. Red for example goes better on a blue background.  According to online fashion sites, wearing light or patterned colours is great for semi-formal occasions.  Keep in mind that it’s a grievous fashion offence to go all light, that is wearing a light suit, a white shirt, while going for a light tie—avoid the Oops.

A black pair of shoes also goes with white. If you have on more casual gear like moccasins, suede, or sandals, that would also be nice.
Take a pointer and avoid stereotypes like black, gray or navy blue. An array of colours in your wardrobe is a beautiful idea and a dash of panache. A cardigan like sky blue and pastel also go well. To be daring, consider shades of yellow on a dark skin tone.

A universally flattering neutral shade also goes with a soft cardigan and blazer. A striped blazer is also a good way to go about going soft. An all-white theme is great for an ostentatious appearance, but remember it is a delicate ensemble.
